What do I do with my tulips that have died?
I got a big bucket full of decorating Easter tulips in bloom. All of them have died now and not I am sure what I am suppose to do with the bulbs. Do I leave in the bucket and plant the bulbs in the fall. And if so, do I have to keep the soil moist throughout the summer? Or, should I plant now for next year but will bloom again, as it is considered still to early spring? I live in the state of Utah that currently we are experiencing temp 40-50 degrees. for spring, but will have a very hot summer.
first of all they are left until the leaves begin to die. But the water's edge as you want it t flowers. This will allow the leaves to feed the bulb for next year. Once the leaves are dead then can be planted or stored in a dry place. Definitely finally replanted, although next year may not receive flowers, only the leaves, the next year he shold be rewarded with a beautiful screen. if you let it die naturally you can even get flowers next year. I always try saving light bulb or the floor and behind any perennials. In this way get the bulbs in early spring and then when they have their lush leaves the perennial will become greater and hide the ugly leaves, but the bulbs will remain powered screen coming years. Do not forget to feed with bonemeal flour fish in the fall with respect to its hot summer, provided they are not exposed to heat no problem. If you are on the ground that will be deep enough not to be affected and whether they are in storage that does not feel the heat either. I live in southern Ontario and, yes, we get hot summers!
