Giant Pond
Oil is over $ 100 a barrel and the sun is still free. Despite the political efforts of the industrial complex to ensure that only buy more price of our energy from approved sources, economic pressure from individual homeowners strength of a movement to "liberate" the sources energy.
The question to date with the most implementations of solar heating is that the cost of capital to redirect all the photons free at home requires repayment periods of 10, 15 or 30 years. Only the pioneers of the families are willing to gamble on a 30-year recovery with technology that is improving every five days.
Air heaters solar transpiration can reduce the payback period to the point where people will drive their trucks to store supplies for the home in the morning and start saving money in the afternoon, on a clear day you can see the future and the economy are quite clear.
Fuel oil supply approximately 139,000 BTU per gallon to $ 2.95 a gallon, with prices rising rapidly. A BTU is sufficient heat to raise the temperature of one pound of water 1 degree per hour. An average household size in the central region needs about 80 million BTU's to keep comfortable to occupants during the winter. The 80 million BTU from burning of 575 gallons of fuel oil at a cost of $ 1697. Your money going up in smoke. The season heating is six months so I guess we will have 18,000 BTU per hour on average (the maximum load would be much higher, of course).
The sun provides about 450 BTU per hour per square meter and bright. Assuming 50% efficiency solar collector that could capture 225 BTU/ft2/hr or 1,800 BTU/ft2/day. The most economical application for solar heating is based, provide a slow and steady improvement, bringing cold air with warm air, burn oil only to prevent explosions in the Arctic.
Therefore, we will save some money.
Perspiration solar collectors provide low air temperature (80-110 degrees F) by pulling in cool outside air and heating on the way home. These collectors are simple sheets of metal or black plastic covered with small ventilation holes, high technology is not just great technology. The collector heats the sun, cold air circulates through and absorbing heat, delivering clean power to your living room. By the way, is drawing in fresh air from outside. These modern, air-tight households are killing us all. Nobody noticed that the incidence of toxic mold has increased since 3000 percent "tight" homes started being built? They should be called disease-in-a-box homes, but I digress.
Collectors are very cheap sweating because they are designed to operate at temperatures low and do not require glass lids and not isolation. To circulate the air, not water, so no freezing problems and little maintenance. You can use your ductwork existing furnace and hot air tube only at home or use it to pump heat into the basement, reducing the cost of keeping the house warm and acts as a repository Storage giant solar near-zero incremental cost.
100 square feet of solar collectors provide breathability 180,000 BTU per day, or 32,400,000 BTU's during the six-month heating season. That would remove 233 gallons of fuel oil and $ 687 dollars to pull back into his bottle of mad money for do something crazy with no-Las Vegas? These systems are cheap and simple so that should last 20 years. Now that you have $ 13,740 in mad money jar can be said, High Roller, baby?
It is assumed that fuel oil will be $ 2.95 per gallon for the next 20 years. Realistically, fuel will be more expensive than a college education in 20 years. Our children are all working for the Saudi princes, his gold digging around and we will be grateful to you can change the thermostat to 45 degrees and thaw toilets.
Start checking it out. If you can not find 100 square feet of collectors solar transpiration under $ 687 U.S. dollars that will be sent free loan plans and my staple gun (just kidding about the staple gun to shop one with its earnings Vegas).

I got interested in solar power because I'd like to keep my goats from freezing in the winter without spending a fortune to do it. They're lovable, but not that lovable. So I'm playing with a very low tech, home-grown version of a transpiration space heater made out of drainage pipe. On a clear day, 10 feet of pipe heats fresh air over 50 degrees; happy, happy goats.
What do I do with my pond plants in the winter?
I live in Illinois (zone 5) and have two ponds that come together. One of 750 gallons and one of 2450 liters. I have some pond plants do not know what to do with winter. My question is I have plants like cattails, Dwarf Giant Papyrus Pickerel weed and feel on the shelves of pond water from 0 "to 1" of water and I'm not sure where or what to do with them in the winter. Do you dive or leave them where they are? Moreover, I prune the dead growth?
Always prune dead plant material. The bell will die and return in the spring, it cut again now. The papyrus is very strong, but you may want to bring that to the house or garage. Weeds pike is sensitive, so you have to be in the house or garage. Cut all to about an inch tall and put them back in the pool when spring arrives.
