Garden Decorating Tips

The garden can be an extension of a home’s living space.  With the use of garden furniture, many homeowners relax and entertain in the garden.  Some garden decorating tips can help the homeowner create a garden décor that reflects the desired appearance and uses.  The use of ornaments and landscaping can turn an ordinary garden into a retreat.

One of the initial decisions that needs to be made is what type of activity the garden should be designed to accommodate.  If the homeowner plans to entertain often, the appropriate garden furniture should be an integral part of the garden décor.  Some people opt for permanent furniture placement like benches and concrete chairs or sofas.

Lightweight garden chairs could be stored and easily moved to the desired locations for a get-together.  If the patio is small, the best outdoor seating option could be benches, since chairs can take up much more space and make a small patio look cluttered.

A water feature for the garden can add to the relaxing atmosphere.  There is a wide range of water features available.  Those with small outdoor spaces may choose a small pond with a waterfall.  Fountains can be simple or elaborate.  They can be freestanding structures in the garden or integrated in the patio space.

Some people chose to include statues in their gardens.  The statues may be religious icons or have a secular theme.  Gnomes, Buddha, fairies, angels and the Virgin Mary are examples of common religious statues.  Outdoor lighting can be used to make the most of statues, water features or other points of interest in the garden.

Many people who entertain outdoors enjoy having a fire pit near the conversation area.  This way, the entertaining doesn’t have to be cut short as soon as there is a chill in the air.  If outdoor grilling is to be frequent, homeowners may want to have a brick or concrete grill installed.

Garden ornaments and other decorations should revolve around a chosen color palette.  This helps the entire garden décor have a unified look.  This will help all the design decisions look deliberate rather than cluttered.  Accents like pillows and flower pots in co-ordinated colors give the design a professional, polished look.

Separate seating areas are often desirable.  One larger seating area may work well for entertaining.  The homeowner may want an additional secluded area with a couple chairs and a table for an outdoor coffee nook.  A lounge chair separated from the rest of the garden by hedges, trees or a garden wall may be an ideal place for reading.

If the homeowner decides what activities they want to do outdoors first, the decorating can successfully meet those needs.  The ideal garden décor combines the homeowner’s desired functionality with beauty.  These garden decorating tips can be used to personalize the outdoor space and prepare the space for the homeowner’s use.
